Singapore Stop Over - Part 3 of 3

The following morning we were late agin and we had our brunch at the food court of Novo City for some hawker style dishes. I spotted this stall with a special certficate, having been awarded the best oyster omelette back in 2007 by the Sg Street Food Awards.

Here is the lady preparing my Char Kway Teow. Hmmm it was interesting that they never seem to wash the wok. Maybe its what makes the dishes tasty, similar to the way sour dough bread dough from the previous batch is always used as the base to make the next batch of sour dough bread.

My brunch. Char Kway Teow and Oyster Omelette while Yeng had rice topping of char siew and roast pork belly from another stall.

Now off to Sentosa

Walked around Imbiah Look out before we decided to try the Luge. It was ejoyable but the track was a bit too short. Costs about SGD12 and comes with funky smelling helments too if youre not careful in picking your equipment. After that we also tried the VERY short segway course. Below is Yeng taking lessons on how the Segway is used.

Then we strolled along Siloso Beach. Now, this for me is a sad picture. Sad that the Philippines with all our wonderful beaches and TANKER-FREE Landscapes cant attract the same amount of international tourisists as Sg. What impressed me though is that the water on the beach is clean and green. How come we cant keep Manila Bay looking like this?

After all that walking we headed off to Resorts World for a bit of Toast Box love.

Hebi Hiam Soft Bun (I didnt actually like this, it tasted like powdered dried squid on a bun. Hehe just not for me I guess)

After the short snack we headed off for the Songs of the Sea Light/Water/Fire Show. Was OK but not the best Ive ever seen (the distiction for me goes to the La Font Magica in Barcelona)

After Sentosa, we went to see the Singapore Flyer. Was so dficcult to get a shot of Sg because we were moving and everything around us came out blurry. I still tried though.

To end the night we had dinner at Makansutra Gluttons Bay near the Esplanade for more hawker food loving.

Grilled stingray with Sambal (though I doubt whether it's really stingray? Can someone verify this?). The first time I had this was in Miri, Malaysia and I loved the texture of the fish and the spicy/salty sambal on top, all made quite fragrant by grilling it on folded banana leaves.

We ate all this with a big plate of Nasi Lemak with dilis.

For dessert, some shaved ice with soursop and sea jelly.

After dinner we headed off to the hotel and the following day was devoted to last minute shopping before flying off to Manila.

Again, we had a very late start to our day. One of my Yeng's travel quirks is to eat at a McDonalds in every country we visit. She has to try out the "unique" offering that each local Mcdo has to offer. From Sg, its the Samurai burger and the Bistro Chicken Sandwich

On the way to Orchard Rd, we couldnt resist buying some chocs for our sweet tooth

We spent the day window shopping along Orchard Rd. Here is one of the trendiest malls along Orchard, ION.

For dinner we headed off to the Novina area to meet up with my wife's Sg-based friends. They took us to Wee Nam Kee, which to my pleasant surprise was an unassuming sideroad eatery. Very different from the one we have along Ayala Triangle in Makati.

Plastic stools, and a busy noisy clientele. Your definitely just paying for (great) food here. Hmmm-hmmmm. A real value for money.

After dinner, we headed off to the Marina Bay Sands for a much needed walk to aid digestion and also to grab some coffee and dessert. Here are some pictures I took from the bay.

After dinner at Wee Nam Kee, we headed back to Clark Quay to try the GX-5 at 2am in the morning! I absolutely hate roller coaster rides, bungees, and anything involving high speeds and change in direction and acceleration but somehow my wife still manages to convince me to try. We were swung at a speed of 120kph from an extremely high point which i never had the guts to actually look into. Here we are after the torturous event. Yeng all happy, and me with glazed eyes.

It was straight to the hotel after that for a well deserved sleep.

Singapore Stop Over - Part 1 of 3

Last February I flew from Doha to Singapore where I met up with Yeng who flew from Manila. Im now back in Qatar and I just wanted to share pictures from our 4-day Sg stop over.

After waiting for my wife for 3 hours at the airport, we headed straight to Clark Quay where we stayed.

View of the Novotel at Clark Quay where we stayed.

Already hungry, we decided to have dinner at Clark Quay. Here are the lamb chops and kurobota pork we had at Hot Stones. The lamb chops were tender but the kurobota pork was forgettable. Over-all the food was OK, but I thought it was overpriced. But then again this was to be expected from restaurants at Clark Quay.

Some turkish ice cream to cap off dinner. Turkish Ice Cream was good in a gooey and sticky kind of way, however IMHO a little bit more cream in it would do it some good.

The following day, we grabbed a quick bite downstairs at Kopi Tiam. For me, these are staples everytime I visit Sg.

After breakfast we headed off to see Asia's version of Universal Studios.

Having missed lunch, we headed off to Toast Box for a quick bite after what seemed like an endless day of rides (we even got to try the yet to be opened Battlestar Galactica rides!)

Laksa. This is one of my favorite Malay/IndoChin dishes. My preference is the Katong Laksa and the ones you find in hawker centers in Borneo.

For dinner, one of my friends in Sg took us to No Signboard seafood along the Esplanade.

We were so hungry, I did not remember to take pictures of the dishes before we devoured them! What remained of chili crabs, cereal prawns, kangkong with belachan, and baby squid.

After dinner, we strolled from the Esplanade to the Merlion. To my wife's disappointment the Merlion was under renovation. I was still able to take pictures of the available views.
